Poker Players

A good way to improve your poker game and have an edge against your opponents is to study their behavior and profit from their weaknesses. Online poker rooms let you write notes for players, so you can identify them each time you stumble upon them at a table.

Poker experts have classified poker players into some categories that share some common attitudes towards the game. If you find what type of player your opponent is, you can easily outperform him by exploiting his weaknesses.

The most common types of poker players are:

-    Calling Stations (also known as Poker Donks) – These are the worst poker players. They are the milk cows, the ones you want to get the money from. Their game is very weak and they play loose-passive. They play a lot of hands and tend to call the pot to see who wins. They don’t raise too much, but they don’t want to fold either.

-    The Rocks – They are extremely tight players who fold all weak hands and raise only with monsters. Rocks are very predictable, and you can steal their blinds or harass them often, because they will most likely fold. If they are raising, get away from their path, as they probably hold a monster.

-    The Maniacs – They like hot action, and they raise with any hand. They are very tricky players, but you can easily beat them if you play correctly. Wait for a good hand and strike them. You can slow play them very easy, as they attack all the time.

-    The Poker Sharks – Stay away from the sharks. Their bite can be lethal to your stack. Sharks are tight aggressive players who play good hands aggressively, but know how to change their style from time to time so that they are hard to read. Sometimes they bluff, sometimes they have a good hand, but it is very hard to guess what they are holding. Best thing to do is to avoid them.
